Boride AS-9 220 grit is one of the AS-9 roughing stones that follows the 150 grit stone and serves to remove scratches from the previous stone. The average grain size in the sieving in this bar is about 60 microns. Therefore, this stone is recommended to be used at the end of the roughing stage to complete the initial formation of the knife approach, regrinding, repair (for example, removing notches) and other operations that require the removal of a large amount of metal. The recommended grit for the 220 grit step following the Boride AS-9 stone is 320 grit (ANSI) Boride AS-9.

The surface hardness of steels after electrospark action is usually very high and can exceed 70 HRC on the Rockwell scale. The main purpose of the stones of the Boride AS-9 series is the processing and finishing of molds. However, although we rarely encounter steels harder than 65 HRC when sharpening cutting tools, the AS-9 series is exceptionally effective in the roughing and initial sharpening stages, especially in removing scratches on hard steels from coarse diamond and CBN abrasives. At the same time, the stones of the Boride AS-9 series are guaranteed to remove deep scratches, leveling residual mechanical stresses, effectively expose undamaged carbide structures, removing zones of hidden defects and eliminating the development of corrosion and blunting processes in these places.
A series of grinding stones Boride AS-9 is not impregnated, i.e. the inter-abrasive space is not filled with a special composition that prevents the products of processing from getting stuck between the particles of the abrasive (loading). The lubricating fluid during operation penetrates into the stone. To improve stock removal performance and comfort, it is recommended to use low density cutting fluid, water, or specialized cutting fluid from Boride Bori-Lube, in this case, as a rule, it is preferable to oil. The leveling of the bar is carried out on glass, on silicon carbide powder. During operation and when cleaning from salting, the use of household detergents is allowed.
