Boride abrasive stones of the Orange ODM series are made of vitrified aluminum oxide and can be used for sharpening knives made of tool steels, both on sharpening machines and manually.
The Boride Orange EDM series of abrasive stones, like the Golden Star and AS-9 series, was originally designed for processing steels after electric spark processing. In other words, the Orange EDM series is designed to work with steels of very high hardness, since it is after electrospark machining (EDM) that a highly alloyed hardening layer of hardened metal is formed on the metal surface. Just like in the Golden Star series, Orange EDM has more stringent requirements for abrasive grain selection. Orange EDM stone in 600 grit is the finest stone in this series. It is usually included in the recommended tool sharpening kits to expand the options for machined steels.
