Handheld block YS Nakayama 63x59x19mm

A small “handheld” measuring 63x59x19mm made from the legendary Nakayama sharpening stones is intended mainly for use in camping conditions. The size of the stone, as well as its abrasive ability, are very convenient for quickly restoring the cutting properties of a knife without the use of any additional devices. At the same time, the handheld is large enough for stationary use when sharpening knives with short blades, carpentry tools, etc., as well as using nagura and sluriks.

Nakayama is one of the most ancient and famous Japanese sharpening stones from the quarry of the same name (mine). The history of the mine and, accordingly, the Nakayama stone goes back about 900 years.
The stone is particularly interesting not only because it gives the highest uniformity and speed of work, as for a finishing stone. In addition, the stone has a very large abrasive range and allows for a variety of methods of use. Can be used both in pure form with water, with a suspension of the stone itself, and as suspensions from nagura and other stones.
The hardness of a stone is usually estimated from 3.5 to 5 Lv, depending on the stratum (layer) of stone extraction. This stone is of medium hardness and that is why it is excellent for sharpening knives.
