T2 series Boride stone (blue), 1200 grit, standard size - 152x25x6mm (6”x1”x1/4”). The average grain size in sieving is 3 µm. A stone of the Super Fine category, intended for finishing stages. Used to remove scratches from previous sharpening steps, such as after a 1000 grit (ANSI) stone.
T2 Series Boride Stones are classified as Specialty Stones in the Stone Classifier manufactured by BORIDE Engineered Abrasives. The list of stones included in the Boride T2 series includes abrasives for a wide range of applications from medium stages of peeling to finishing with grit - 150, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200 grit. The T2 series of sharpening stones is the most popular and in demand among abrasive whetstones manufactured by Boride (USA), as it is designed for processing high-alloy stainless and tool steels (i.e., it completely covers the need for processing any kind of steel in the knife industry). For working with stainless steel - the Boride T2 series is rightfully considered the best among grinding bars. The abrasive used in this series of stones is aluminum oxide, and the bond is a very hard ceramic bond, one of the hardest bonds among all the series produced by Boride. Therefore, Boride T2 abrasive stones are exceptionally resistant to abrasion, less often than others require alignment. At the same time, the T2 series bars are resistant to clogging and are well cleaned in water or soapy water with a stiff brush. Boride T2 stones are highly abrasive, cut quickly, leaving a silky-matte surface after processing. Thanks to special impregnation (impregnation of the inter-abrasive space with special hard waxes), sharpening with Boride T2 series stones can be carried out both with the use of oil or water, and with the use of specialized coolants (Boride T2 series stones do not absorb coolant inside, the liquid remains only on the surface). Boride produces a water-based sharpening fluid containing dipropylene glycol specifically for their stones. Since the cutting fluids produced by Boride contain components that dissolve the inter-abrasive impregnation used, these fluids are most harmoniously suited for working with Boride T2 series stones.
Alignment of Boride stones is carried out on glass using silicon carbide powder of the appropriate fraction. After use (sharpening, leveling), the Boride stone must be washed, wiped with a napkin and left for some time to dry. It is better to store Boride stones in a wooden unvarnished (unpainted) box, for better adsorption of residual moisture from the stone. To avoid damage, do not dry the stones with heating devices and in direct sunlight.
The new Boride bar has good enough geometry and surface finish to get you started right away. Minor sawing marks can be removed on the glass using silicon carbide powder if desired. It is also recommended to remove the radius chamfers on the bars to prevent accidental damage to the RC or the supply of a sharp edge of a stone.
Initially, the stone can not be glued to the blank (if this is not necessary for fastening in the holder), since the bar is strong enough and it will be possible to use two sides of the stone as workers. Subsequently, when the stone is worked out and there is a risk of breaking it, it will be possible to stick it on a standard form for this form factor.
