Suehiro, a Japanese manufacturer of water stones for sharpening in the province of Niigata, makes abrasive stones under the Suehiro and Cerax brands.
Stones with the Suehiro brand are made as close as possible in characteristics to the classic natural Japanese water stones. The bond is relatively soft, so Suehiro stones have good grain renewal on the work surface and work well with even the hardest steels.
Stones with the Cerax brand have a harder bond, better hold the surface geometry and are designed for applications where effective metal removal is not so much important as precise maintenance of the geometric parameters of the abrasive bar during operation, for example, for sharpening scissors.
