Blade 110 mm, laminate, Full tang, VG-10 central layer steel - this is a blank for making a knife for overlay mounting. The total length of the blade with the shank is 215 mm. The thickness of the spine is 3 mm, the height of the blade is 27 mm. Bevels by two thirds. The central layer is hardened to a hardness of 60 HRC, the hardness of the facings is 45 HRC, not sharpened, the reduction is 0.2 mm. Damascus pattern - Diamond. Two mounting holes with a diameter of 6 mm and one hole for a lanyard with a diameter of 7 mm. VG-10 steel (or V Gold 10) is produced by Takefu Special Steel Co and is positioned as made specifically for use in the knife industry. Therefore, this steel, with its very high hardness, as for stainless steel, is very easy to sharpen, but at the same time retains the performance qualities of an excellent cut for quite a long time even under extreme loads. The chemical composition of VG-10 is not very exotic at first glance: C (1.05), Si (0.45), Mn (0.5), Cr (15), Mo (1.2), V (0.35), Co (1.8). A rare element, cobalt (Co), is added to this steel, which immediately makes it hard and viscous, but at the same time increases the cost. Of course, VG-10 has a high content of molybdenum and vanadium. VG-10 is the gold standard of quality not only for Japanese steels, but also for knife alloys in general. Despite the fact that VG-10 is quite widely represented by knife manufacturers, with its high indicators it comes close to the limit of the capabilities of modern serial technologies for the production of stainless steels.
