
The name of the wood species is Monkeypod or KingWood. Other names for this breed are Maisamsa, Samsa, Raintree, Rain Tree, Saman. The Latin name for the tree is Samania saman. KingWood is a huge deciduous tree (up to 20 m high and up to 1.5 trunk diameter) with a very wide and spreading, branched crown. It grows in a humid tropical climate - in Haiti, Laos, Thailand, Mnyamna, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico.
The color of the wood is from yellow-brown to yellow-red. Mankipod refers to hard rocks. Its wood is only slightly inferior in hardness to teak. Mankipod is very resistant to wear and scratches. Dry density approx. 650 kg/m³.
Monkeypod wood is very resistant to aggressive environmental influences. Mankipod is easily processed with hand tools and on the machine. Well glued, sanded and polished. Has no characteristic odour.
Due to its high resistance to rotting, decay and other adverse effects, Monkeypod wood is recommended for use in products in especially harsh operating conditions. Ideal for making knife handles and outdoor hand tools.
