The name of the wood species is Zebrano (Zebrano / Brachystegia Freliana / Brachystegia fleuryana Chev.). Zebrano is a large deciduous tree (trunk diameter up to 1.2 m), which grows mainly in West Africa - in the rain forests of Gabon and Cameroon.
Color: decorative light golden color, with narrow strokes from dark brown to almost black. The surface is shiny. The heartwood is pale golden with narrow bands of dark brown to black, clearly separated from the very pale sapwood. It can also be pale brown with dark brown spots of varying sizes. The unusual pattern of Zebrano makes this type of wood an expensive ornamental material. Zebrano has high decorative qualities.
Zebrano is a heavy and hard wood with a somewhat rough texture, often with graininess (intersecting or wavy grains). The dry density is 750 - 800 kg / m³, the Brinell hardness is 4.1 kgf / mm². As with many other tropical woods, graininess can be difficult to process.
Zebrano wood is highly resistant to aggressive environmental factors and biological factors. Zebrano has a natural, very beautiful sheen and coarse texture. This tree is very easy to process using a wide variety of tools. Zebrano lends itself well to staining and polishing, which are elements of wood finishing. Elements made from this wood are easily glued together, but the strength and high density of wood require pre-drilling holes when fastening parts with screws.
Recommended for use in everyday products, furniture, carpentry. Ideal for making knife handles and hand tools.
