Slurik is a block for guiding the suspension onto the working surface of the sharpening stone. Basically, the suspension is actively released when sharpening on various kinds of whetstones made from slate rocks. Accordingly, using a small piece of slate, you can effectively create a suspension both on a stone of the same breed and on other sharpening stones (natural or synthetic), even on those that do not emit their own suspension, but at the same time perfectly allow you to work on someone else’s ", induced by red lead. Working with a suspension significantly increases the productivity of the sharpening process, makes it tactilely softer, and a stone with a suspension begins to work in a completely different way. There are sharpening techniques, with the help of which, on one lapping platform (for example, made of fine-grained sandstone, which does not emit its own suspension and has virtually no effect on the result of the treatment of the approach surface), the entire sharpening cycle from roughing to finishing is carried out by sequentially changing sluriks (nagur , in the Japanese interpretation) of various grain sizes. The suspension, both from the slurik and from the working surface of the stone, is knocked out when used as a coolant - water. Therefore, work with Slurik must be carried out using water as a lubricant.
The offered slurik is made from Llyn Melynllyn slate rocks - one of the types of famous Welsh slates previously mined in Great Britain, North Wales, in the Yellow Lake area. It is a microcrystalline siliceous shale of purple color with a thin-layered structure. Its use gives a pronounced smoothing effect, does not injure the cutting edge and is recommended for use with straight razors and other cutting tools at the finishing stages (in cases where exceptionally fine finishing operations on natural stones are required). At the same time, the use of Llyn Melynllyn slurik significantly increases the abrasive ability of the main stone, while ensuring excellent cleanliness of the treated surface.
Llyn Melynllyn slate has a characteristic burgundy (purple) color. The abrasive ability of this sample of Llyn Melynllyn shale rock is tested and determined to be 12,000 grit. Slurik Llyn Melynllyn has a very dense structure and practically does not absorb water, so it does not need to be soaked before use. With water, Llyn Melynllyn gives a purple-tinged suspension.
Slurik Llyn Melynllyn has dimensions of 39x21x16mm, does not require pre-processing or finishing and is completely ready for use.
