Mokume-gane is a composite material consisting of dissimilar and differently colored metals. In fact, the manufacturing technology of Mokume-gane is close to the production process of Damascus steel or various laminates. Only instead of iron, jewelry metals are more often used - yellow and white gold, palladium, platinum, silver, copper, brass, nickel silver, etc. Nickel silver and copper are used in these bars, the combination of which gives a very beautiful contrasting pattern. Textured metals form a variety of decorative patterns that often resemble the texture of wood. In the Japanese version for Mokume-gane, there are also names: Kasumiuchi (smoke forging) or Itamegane (metal with a wood pattern). Mokume-gane is a very ancient inlay technique that was used in medieval Japan, mainly to decorate edged weapons. In the technique of Mokume-gane, various kinds of bolsters, guards, tops, decorative spacers of handles were made and continue to be made to this day. Mokume-gane has served as an exquisite dyeing of the most expensive weapons since ancient times.
