AS-9 series Boride stone, 400 grit, standard size - 152x12x6mm (6”x1/2”x1/4”). The average grain size in sieving is about 18 microns. The stone is intended for the initial stages of sharpening. Can be used either as an initial stone in the process of grinding previously sharpened and blunted cutting tools, or to remove scratches from coarser stages of peeling, for example, after a 320 grit stone. The recommended grit for the next 400-grit AS-9 series Boride stone is 600-grit (ANSI) AS-9 series Boride stone.
AS-9 series Boride abrasive stones are made of aluminum oxide and are used for sharpening knives on a sharpener.
AS-9 series stones from BORIDE Engineered Abrasives, USA are classified as EDM Polishing Stones, i.e. designed to work on eroded metal structures after electrospark machining. The surface hardness of steels after electrospark action is usually very high and can exceed 70 HRC on the Rockwell scale. The main purpose of the stones of the Boride AS-9 series is the processing and finishing of molds. However, although we rarely encounter steels harder than 65 HRC when sharpening cutting tools, the AS-9 series is exceptionally effective in the roughing and initial sharpening stages, especially in removing scratches on hard steels from coarse diamond and CBN abrasives. At the same time, the stones of the Boride AS-9 series are guaranteed to remove deep scratches, leveling residual mechanical stresses, effectively expose undamaged carbide structures, removing zones of hidden defects and eliminating the development of corrosion and blunting processes in these places.
A series of grinding stones Boride AS-9 is not impregnated, i.e. the inter-abrasive space is not filled with a special composition that prevents the products of processing from getting stuck between the particles of the abrasive (loading). The lubricating fluid during operation penetrates into the stone. To improve stock removal performance and comfort, it is recommended to use low density cutting fluid, water, or specialized cutting fluid from Boride Bori-Lube, in this case, as a rule, it is preferable to oil. The leveling of the bar is carried out on glass, on silicon carbide powder. During operation and when cleaning from salting, the use of household detergents is allowed.
